We’ve been gardening at 1046 and made some progress this weekend!  Many of you are asking me how to start a garden, what to plant and how to plant but I must say, I’m learning myself and really don’t feel like I’m educated enough to be giving advice yet! haha  This is a great DIY on Raised Garden Beds (like we have) – Check it out if you’re interested in starting a Garden and see if this is the right decision for you and your family. -here you go- I still need to figure out how to make a real door for the garden but progress is progress and we’re moving along!  This weekend, we planted basil, onions, swiss chard and beets!  I wanted to plant garlic but after a little conversation with my Pap, he said he has more garlic than he knows what to do with so that solves the garlic dilemma!  We’ll get our garlic from Pap!  I also want to paint the wood around the garden so it looks bright and fun… So much to do, so little time!

Rocco seems to be really into the garden while Roman just enjoys pouring water in one spot to create a big puddle he can splash in.  I hope our veggies grow!  There’s such a science to planting.  Each vegetable has to be planted at a certain depth and so far apart and then there are vegetables that shouldn’t be near one another.  Like I said, I’m learning but I love the organization of it all!  I know when its complete, it will put a big smile on my face to see everything lined up, in its place and well organized!  (and yes, I know I have issues.)  I love having an outdoor project!  Its gives me something to do while the boys ‘cut the grass’.  (Because that’s what my boys do; they walk laps around the house with their bubble mowers.)  Gardening this weekend made me realize that I need gardening shoes.  Which, btw, what are gardening shoes?  I wore flip-flops because rain boots just seemed silly and well, I didn’t want my tennis shoes to get trashed.  My PiggyToes were definitely dirty after planting all of those vegetables!

After a day of gardening, we made a last minute decision to have a Cinco de Mayo get together with family!  Though we always look for a reason to eat Mexican Food, this occasion had to be celebrated!  I made chicken enchiladas (this is the recipe), homemade guacamole (here’s the recipe for that) and black bean and corn salsa (keep your eyes open for the recipe!)  While Brian was out, he picked up a bottle of Skinnygirl Margarita and surprised me with it when he got home! YUM!!!  I give it a 2 thumbs up!

I was halfway through my 1st glass when he admitted that he completely ‘doctored up’ my drink!  So much for a ‘skinny’ girl margarita ~ It was loaded with all the extra calories just like in a regular margarita!  Whatever ~ It sure was delicious!

I use crocs for gardening- best part about them- they can be left outside to let the rain clean them off.. :)
