WHAT A WEEK! Is it just me or is your house flipped upside down too when you prepare for vacation? This week we have been getting ready for our San Diego vacation! By we, I mean ME and I must have 47 different to-do lists going at once. The washing machine has been running non stop, the food is emptying from our refrigerator and I’ve been crossing items off of my list day by day. However, I feel like with 2 little boys running around and a psycho dog, everything I do is undone within minutes of doing them. I can’t win!
Monday, I got the boys plane bags packed and set them aside, in hiding mind you! The next day, I reopened them to add crayons & found pajamas, dirty underwear and a half eaten PB&J sandwich in them… REALLY? I thought I was loosing my mind when I washed all of the clothes and couldn’t find the brand new pj’s I bought for Rocco. But Oh! There they were! Right next to yesterdays underwear and covered in slobbery peanut butter!
Tuesday, Roman really started to show his excitement about ‘packing’ and decided to help me by taking all of his clothes out of the suitcase so he could unfold and refold them for me. Its now a crumbled & wrinkled mess in there and I know I’ll have to iron everything upon arrival. “I helping you!” he said in his little high pitched, raspy voice. Rocco shouted back, “No you are NOT! You are making a MESS!” I can hear myself in him sometimes. Roman ran to his rocking reindeer and Rocco ran behind him, then… PUSH! Up, over the handle bars went Roman, right into the corner of our wooden coffee table. Is it ok to bubble wrap them until our PiggyToes touch the sand? Family beach photos are going to look… awesome.
All week, my 2 monkeys have been staring at me with pointed eye brows and tilted heads. I find myself saying, “SERIOUSLY?” either out loud or in my head about 23,684 times a day. The kids love testing me when they know I’m busy and it was cute to watch them plan their next move until I had enough. On Wednesday, they purposefully ate Vanilla Wafers over their suitcases and I think something along the lines of, “I swear if you get crumbs in your suitcase, I’ll take your cookies, dump them in the garbage and you’ll never eat vanilla wafers again!” came out of my mouth. I think.
Not to worry about their behavior on the 6 hour plane ride; they are well prepared. I told the boys about the story that was on the news; you know, the one about the little girl who threw a fit on the plane and they kicked her and her family off? Oh yes, I did. I sat them both down and told them all about it. I added my own twist too so it would be reeeeeaaally good (I’m sure you do the same thing). Needless to say, Rocco is scared out of his mind about the pilot landing the plane and kicking him off. He even says, “Mommy. I’m going to be a good boy on the plane. I’ll watch 12 Jake & the Pirates shows and no pilot will kick me off the plane. Nope!“ Roman? Not so much. In fact, he flat out told me, “I poop on the pilot!” and proceeded to laugh and laugh and laugh. This will be quite an adventure.
And just when I thought we were all ready for our trip, I cooked our last home-made dinner at 1046: Ground Turkey Enchiladas… cooked the meat, veggies and beans, rolled everything in a tortilla, put the sauce and cheddar on top, covered & baked for 30 minutes and voila! Dinner was served. After we all took a few bites, we soon realized the meat was bad. Yes, BAD. Our stomachs rumbled while I threw 5 enchiladas in the garbage and cooked marinara sauce and raviolis… If any of us get food poisoning, I really just don’t know what I’ll do. And ever since Brian got home from work, the kids have been asking him 1,768,952 questions about the plane, the pilot, San Diego… you name it. I heard him tell Rocco, “If you ask me this many questions on the plane, I might have a heart attack.”
I’m definitely ready for a vacation. Time with my family. A break from reality. No cooking. Rest. QT… I’m sure it will be a great adventure! If we get there. In one piece. With no broken bones. or food poisoning.
Cheers to Summer Vacation… We’re packed and we’re ready!

Omg, I bet you are exhausted. I hope you don’t get food poisoning. Have a wonderful trip! You deserve it.

Thank You Erin!
On the plane now… Brian is building a foam Pirate Ship for the boys! YIPEE!
This made me laugh out loud. Vacation is HARD work, and normally we come home exhausted. But it is great time spent with our family any way! Hope you have a great time!
