4th of July

Its 1:30pm and I just finished my Nonfat Vanilla Bean Yogurt with Vanilla Almond Granola Clusters from Trader Joes.  YUM.  I’m still in my pajamas and the boys went down for naps about an hour ago.  I’ve been cleaning alllllll morning and I kid you not, a ‘day-after cleaning crew’ will definitely be in the party budget next year!  Fingerprints covered every inch of the glass on every window, door and mirror… food drippings were found on the backs of chairs and under tables and the number of flying creatures that came in from the outside due to doors being open and closed was just icky!  Blah!  Grass, sand, leaves and dirt were in & under the rugs and pee, yes pee surrounded the powder room toilet (gross!).  I’ll conclude that all of that only means we had a great time at our 4th of July party!  Now that 1046 is back to order, I can sit and reminisce about our night spent with friends and family!

~ Happy 4th of July! ~

Before I share more details, please take a moment to look at Rocco’s hair above!  He has this thing with running his little red comb under water and combing it through his hair – reminds me of that kid on the Little Rascals who has the slick hair… what’s his name?  Oh gosh, he makes me laugh!  And dare I try to dry it for him… not a happy camper!  So, I just let him style himself… style away boy!  And he is so proud of himself!  As am I… sort of.  Anyway, after everyone arrived at the party, it didn’t take long before kids were running around in bathing suits, babies were being pushed on swings, other little ones were splashing in the $15 plastic pool and our caterpillar sprinkler was put to good use!  There were people inside and out and the food… oh, the food was so good.  I still can’t believe that I didn’t get a picture of the spread! In fact, I didn’t get many pictures of the day.  That’s the one thing I’m not great at when I’m the hostess!  Its hard… any tips?

Anyway, the FOOD:  We had homemade salads of all kinds (keep watch for cold salad recipes), yummy dips, jambalaya, tomato pies (home-made by Nuni), grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, drinks of all flavors and cookies, pies, frozen yogurt and ice-cream cake for dessert.  It was perfectly satisfying to our bellies!  I love the 4th of July.  I love the time with friends and family all in one location.  I love the games and water fun, the dresses and flip flops, the summer heat and ending the night with fireworks over head!  And let me tell you, my brother-in-law sure knows how to put together an incredible firework display!  We had a wonderful time celebrating the 4th!  And everyone even took time to celebrate my birthday too- meant so much to me… Bri ordered my all time favorite ice-cream cake filled with peanut butter and chocolate ice-cream!  TO. DIE. FOR.

I hope you and your PiggyToes had a fun and safe 4th of July!  Were you the hostess or did your PiggyToes travel to a fun party?

Looks like you had a great Independence Day! Yes, a tip for photos as a hostess. First – take many photos of the setup and you and your family before the bulk of the guests arrive. Then – pass your camera off to someone else! They’ll snap shots of things you’re missing while being the hostess with the most-ess and you’ll even be in some :) I’ve actually tasked several friends with camera duty for just a few minutes each and been so happy with the memories each person captured.
