I’m always flattered when a friend, family member or stranger asks for styling advice or wants me to be their shopping partner for a special occasion outfit! It brings me back to the days when I worked at the boutique and shopped with and for women of all ages, sizes, shapes and color. It was so much fun and I love when I have opportunities that bring me back to those years in my life! Today, I’m sharing with you styling advice on How to Dress for Family Photos.
Meet my friend Jimmie Lee (& her adorable son, Maxson)
Photo Taken By: Generations Photography
Jimmie Lee booked a sitting with Generations Photography and Speciality Gift Shop, in Beaver, PA. She had a great start on the look she wanted for her family but needed some advice and contacted me!
• Dress like you live and take it up a notch.
• Coordinate with 3 or 4 colors and don’t choose white as your primary color.
• Stick with 1 sleeve length for everyone.
• Wear colors that will compliment your surroundings and your skin tone.
• Change into your photo clothing at the sitting. Accidents can happen en route!
• Avoid Trendy Fashions.
• Avoid Showing Too Much Skin.
I feel that family portraits should reflect your lifestyle and that’s what I wanted to help them with; coordinating outfits that reflect who they are. This family is casual, sporty and fun! Jimmie Lee’s oldest son loves ‘Vans’, her hubby feels good in a nice t-shirt and her baby boy already had a pair of adorable plaid shorts hanging in his closet. Jimmie Lee also ordered a floral tunic for herself so after working with that info, I sent Jimmie Lee this sample collage. In it are different patterns and fabrics and the colors coordinate well. The outfits match who they are and the lifestyle they live yet are clean and crisp with a pop of color. We also agreed that the colors would look great in an outdoor setting; perfect for where they were going!
It turned out that the tunic Jimmie Lee ordered never shipped but her new outfit couldn’t have been more perfect; she’s a gorgeous mother! Generations Photography took incredible photos and captured their family in such a beautiful way!
After looking through her family photos, I had to check out the people behind the camera…
