When I asked Vianca how she got started in jewelry making, I never expected her reply to be such a touching story that would hit every emotion in me. I wanted to share her story with you too in hopes that you will be be touched and inspired like I was. I also want to encourage you to support her by purchasing something from her collection or even just by sharing her shop with your friends. This is how she will grow and well… I’d love to see her collection become something big!

Vianca’s Story

I started making jewelry has a form of healing when my cancer (ovarian Leiomyosarcoma) came back for the second and third time. The second time it came back the mass that was growing in my uterus didn’t look too good. My doctors didn’t give me much hope. One of the many things i was told was that their was something in my liver, that I had to get a full hysterectomy, no surgery and go straight for chemo and radiation. Which of course drove me insane. I remember crying and praying for days until I passed out. One morning I decided that I needed to take control of myself metally and not fall into depression. I made a appointment to the ActorsFund in NYC, a place for union actors SAG-AFTRA and decided to speak to my counselor. She gave me all these ideas that I can do as a form of healing. I remember one morning while looking at my self in the mirror. That I was not going to allow this deadly disease take over my mind and soul. It may have my body. But once you have control over the mind. You can do anything. And just like that. Depression and feeling helpless was out the window.

I started doing research on the “how to make jewelry”. I purchased books, got books at the library and went on YouTube. When I had my second surgery to remove the mass (no hysterectomy). I became more involve with jewelry making. It was such a big distraction for me that I forget that I had over 38 staples going down my stomach and all the crap that came with this awful disease. After making so many jewelry pieces a friend mention Etsy. I though maybe I can do this. Until I get myself back on track. My acting career is on the floor and I needed income. Once my Etsy store stared running smoothly and picking up little by little and my agent started sending me out on auditions. The third tumor comes back after 5 months. It was like someone took all the air out of my soul gain. I was numb, lost and confuse for a few days. I lost my creative mind and just closed myself for days. My family, boyfriend, and friends were so supported thru out this painful journey. That being depressed was not a option. They all made sure I was never alone and that I kept busy. After the third surgery to remove the mass and a fully hysterectomy. I decided that I wanted to professionally make jewelry for a living. I wanted something to call my own. Since I cannot bare kids and I do not have any, “Vianca Mercedes Collection” is now my baby. I love losing myself in my studio and creating organic shapes and themes. Everyday, I thank GOD for leading me to this path which also contribute to saving my life. Jewelry making was my salvation and my more to life. It gave my soul happiness again.

I get my inspiration from the arts, films, life, and beautiful things that make my heart skip a beat. I love colors, gemstones, gold, crystals, organic shapes, and big and bold jewelry that make a statement. I believe that if a piece of jewelry makes you feel happy, confident, sexy, and beautiful. You better wear it!

So, my earrings arrived this past week and the first thing I noticed after opening the little white box was how well made they are! I immediately put them on and they definitely made me feel beautiful! Amazing what a new piece of jewelry can make you feel like! So I wore them and can’t even tell you how many compliments I received! Since they arrived, I’ve worn them on a date with white pants and a strapless top, to the pool with a pretty cover up and on a little shopping trip… I just love the stones, the wire wrap and the shape of these earrings!
