Life, Links and a Recipe

Coffee?  Tea?  Let’s chat!  I’m here and still alive but this is the time of year I usually feel like I fall off the face of the earth.  I feel like I’ve been so focused and wrapped up in my own little family of 4 (soon to be 5) and realize that I’ve not given much attention to those around me!  Is that normal?  Is it just what happens at certain stages of motherhood?  I’m definitely in that stage.  Sometimes I get overwhelmed when I try to keep up.  Sometimes scrolling through Facebook can even be overwhelming.  Is it just me?  Do you feel that way too?  So much drama and feelings and sometimes sadness and others who are angry.  I end up posting a picture and typing in the address bar: www.pinterest(.com)! lol  Here’s my solution.  I am finding that life feels ‘drama-free’ when I just worry about the 4 (5) of us.

I’m enjoying the simplicity of life right now.

And I’m also still figuring out how to be a ‘school-mom’ with friends and family.  When the kids weren’t in school, the boys and I had the whole week for play-dates, outings, emails, a few phone-calls here and there… this year, I feel so busy and removed from everyone.  Only focused on us.  I’m working on balancing.  Anyone have any tips?

Moving on… this past weekend I baked a few times.  Something I haven’t done in a while and love to do for my family.  I made a Vegan Cookie Recipe but honestly, I’m torn on posting it.  The only reason I think this cookie might be good enough to post is because the boys enjoyed them so much that they got into the cookie plate while I was getting ready and each put 3 cookies on their snowmen plates to munch on (after eating a full breakfast).  And I may also be torn on posting it because I’m pregnant and this cookie just isn’t the kind that does it for me right now.  Give me chocolate chips, white flour, sugar, brown sugar, eggs and butter any day and I’ll whip you up a phenomenal cookie!  But give me maple syrup, oil and whole wheat flour?  I’ll bake these in 10-12 minutes and let you decide if they’re worthy of a blog post.  I think I got this recipe from one of my iPhone apps… Try them and be honest.

While everyone enjoyed those bite sized vegan cookies, I snuck out of the house for a hot minute to search our hometown for maternity pantyhose (gag me).  I knew the only thing that would make that experience go well was a Tall, Soy, Caramel Brulee Latte from Starbucks.  I dream about it.  All 270 calories of it ; )

I checked a handful of local stores for pantyhose and made my way to Target; they didn’t have them either.  And that’s when I met Valerie.  I tell ya, shoes do the trick every time!  Instant smile… SOLD!  You can buy these little flats here!  The ‘Valerie Blingy Flat, in Pewter’…

See what I wore with them tomorrow!

And lastly, since its been rainy here in Pittsburgh, I’ve been NESTING in my spare time.  We brought up the Art table from downstairs and put it in the sun-room off of our kitchen.  It will stay there through the winter!  I put together 2 caddy’s for each of the boys to have their own supplies: construction paper, coloring books, paint and gave them each 2 colored baskets full of crayons and colored pencils!  No fighting (hopefully).  They each have what they need and have been spending a lot of time at this table doing art, playing with play-dough, painting, etc.  And they love to display their work in the windows!

That’s all for now friends!  We have a BIG CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY this Friday with awesome products/items in it.  I’m super excited!  Hope you’ve been enjoying your December, staying warm and making memories with your friends and family!  And remember, if it ever seems like ‘too much’ is going on around you, I’d encourage you to step back from it all and just focus on the people who live under your roof.  Sometimes when you do that, life seems so simple and easy and under control.  Just don’t stay away for too long!  ; )

What do you think of adding in chocolate chips instead of raisins to this recipe?! Sounds like something I might enjoy a little better as I’m just not a raisins fan!

Someday I should really try some flats. I am a tennis shoe girl. Always thought heels or flats or a cute shoe would be fun. :) I don’t even know where my heels are.. They were for my wedding or a special event. haha ;)

I just saw those flats at Target today and totally thought to myself, “I need to find a reason to buy those!” I am not a sparkly flats kind of girl, unfortunately. I thought they looked super cute but I really don’t know what the heck I would wear them with! Style and me do not go together, but I can appreciate a pretty shoe when I see it….glad they made your day!

Jamie! When in doubt, wear a fun flat with jeans and a T… a sparkly flat will be the high light of your outfit! Go back and get them ;)
