Homemade Christmas Gift

This year, I really wanted to do something personal for Rocco & Roman’s pre-school teachers.  I found this idea on Pinterest and the original pic I found was made with chives as a Spring gift.  Since chives aren’t in season and all of the fresh rosemary I found only came in large plants, I ended up going to our local florist and finding Boxwood; green and simple and perfect for this personal gift!

It took about an hour to make all 5 and I’m really pleased with how they turned out; I hope their teachers like them!  As an added bonus, when the plant dies, each of the teachers have a personalized mug with their initial on it!

If you are looking for a last minute gift for your son or daughters teacher, or looking to bring a host/hostess gift to an upcoming party, this is it!  It’s something personal, easy to make and you won’t be searching for supplies.  I’ll give you a supplies list and step by step ‘How-To’ from one “wanna-be crafty” mama to another ; )

Supplies:

Coffee Mug (Initial Mug Shown: Anthropologie)

1 small bag of Potting Mix (Lowes or Home Depot)

1 lb. Boxwood (local florist)

Red Ribbon (Michaels)

Directions:

Fill mug halfway with potting soil.

Pull apart and cut boxwood to the height that looks good to your eye.

Stick stems down into the dirt and angle some too.

With a small spoon, pack more dirt all around stems.

Clean excess dirt off of the mugs.

Tie a red ribbon around handle.
